Here's what's expected :
- *Manufacturer Responsibility*: Producers, importers, and brand owners will be legally required to take responsibility for the collection, recycling, and proper disposal of their post-consumer products, especially plastic packaging and single-use materials.
- *EPR Framework*: The framework encourages the development of sustainable product designs, promotes accountability, and reduces the burden on public waste management systems.
- *Regulations*: The National Guideline on EPR for the Packaging Sector and the draft National Environmental (Plastic Waste Control) Regulations 2025 will make EPR mandatory for companies in the packaging sector.
- *Impact*: This move is expected to minimize plastic pollution, promote recycling infrastructure, and support sustainable alternatives. The regulations also aim to include recycled content in products, such as 25% in PET bottles by 2029, and encourage simplified, recyclable packaging designs .

The Federal Government is working with stakeholders across government, industry, and civil society to ensure environmental policies translate into meaningful impact. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address plastic pollution and promote a cleaner, greener environment .
